Getting There

Open the Rulebook

Step 1

Tap More in the tab bar, then tap Rulebook

The Rulebook lives in the More tab — the last tab in Rink Rat's bottom navigation. Tap More, then tap Rulebook from the list to open it.

💡 On iOS, tabs beyond the fifth are grouped under More. The Rulebook is the sixth tab, so you'll always find it there.

Starting a Conversation

Ask a Question

Step 2

Tap a suggested question or type your own

The Rulebook opens with a set of suggested questions to get you started quickly. Tap any suggestion to ask it instantly, or tap the "Ask about a rule…" input at the bottom and type your own question in plain language.

🏒 You don't need to know the rule number — just ask in plain language. Try something like "Can a player wear a full cage?" or "What's icing?"

The AI Answer

Your question and the AI response appear as a chat

After you send your question, it appears as a message bubble and the Rulebook responds directly below it. The answer is written in plain language — no rule codes or legal jargon — so you can get clarity fast, even between periods.

📵 Everything runs on your device — no internet connection needed. The full Hockey Canada rulebook is stored locally in the app.

View Cited Rules

Step 4

Tap a citation card to see which rule was referenced

Below each AI response you'll find a Cited Rules section showing one or more citation cards. Each card shows the rule name and section. Tap a card to open the full rule text.

📋 Citations link directly to the Hockey Canada 2024–2026 Official Rulebook — so you can always verify the source before making a call.

A sheet opens with the cited passage and the complete rule

Tapping a citation card opens a sheet showing the exact passage the AI cited — highlighted at the top — followed by the complete rule text below it. Swipe down to close and return to the chat.

📖 The highlighted excerpt is the specific part the AI used to form its answer. Reading the full rule below it gives you the complete context.

Apple Intelligence Required

Your device needs Apple Intelligence enabled

The Rulebook is powered by Apple Intelligence — Apple's on-device AI. If your device isn't eligible or Apple Intelligence isn't turned on, the Rulebook screen will explain what's needed. An Open Settings button may appear to take you directly to the right place.

⚠️ Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later (or iPad with M1 chip or later) running iOS 18.1 or later, with Apple Intelligence enabled in Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri.
